    Invited speakers

    Chandra Reedy

Chandra L. Reedy, PhD | Editor-in-Chief at Studies in Conservation @ University of Delaware

Chandra serves as a Professor in the Biden School, and as Director of its Center for Historic Architecture & Design (CHAD). She also maintains the Laboratory for Analysis of Cultural Materials in CHAD. She holds a joint appointment in the Department of Art History and is an affiliated faculty member in the Anthropology Department, Asian Studies Program, Center for Global and Area Studies, and Winterthur Program in American Material Culture. Her main interests lie in the preservation of traditional technologies and their associated materials and intangible cultural heritage. She likes to combine ethnographic fieldwork with laboratory analysis. Most of her fieldwork has been done in Asia, most recently in China (primarily in Sichuan Province); her laboratory analyses focus especially on various microscopy and image analysis techniques. Mike Marsh

Mike Marsh, PhD | Dragonfly Product Manager @ Object Research Systems

Dr. Marsh earned his Ph.D. in Structural and Computational Biology from Baylor College of Medicine. He has worked in imaging technology and solutions, with an emphasis on 3D visualization and analysis, for over 20 years. His academic training was in biological sciences, but he has been tasked to develop other areas of expertise for commercial development, including materials sciences and geosciences. This expertise has led to contributed book chapters, review articles or invited talks spanning these multiple disciplines. His scientific imaging and image processing covers X-ray CT, TEM, SEM and SEM-related microanalysis. For the last seven years, Dr Marsh has worked as the Dragonfly Product Manager at Object Research Systems.

    Student speakers

    Faheem Muhammed

Faheem Muhammed | PhD Student @ University of Delaware

Faheem Muhammed is a fourth-year doctoral student studying Material Science and Engineering at the University of Delaware. He originally received a BS in Chemistry at South Carolina State University and a MS in Chemical Engineering at Florida A&M University. His current research interest centers on hybrid matrix composite manufacturing including additive manufacturing of composites, the use of ceramic/polymer matrices, and carbon-carbon composites. The focus of his dissertation is finding unique pathways to increase the efficiency of carbon matrix composite fabrication by modeling the composite’s behavior during processing. His degree is currently being funded by the Army Research Laboratory, in Aberdeen Maryland, where he was awarded the Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) fellowship.

    Aya Takase

Aya Takase | Head of Global Marketing Communications @ Rigaku

Aya holds a PhD in engineering from Osaka University and an MA in physics from Tokyo University of Science. She has been with Rigaku since April 1998. She started in the X-ray Diffraction Application Lab and transitioned to X-ray Imaging in 2017. She now focuses on providing educational and useful content for X-ray users. Her goal: Help non-expert X-ray users achieve expert results with less time and effort. She has worked on many projects designing automated and user-friendly X-ray instruments and analysis software. She is very passionate about helping people learn more about X-rays and working with X-ray users to solve their specific problems. Want to learn more? Connect with Aya on LinkedIn.

    Angela Criswell

Angela Criswell | Director of X-ray Imaging @ Rigaku

Angela holds a PhD from Rice University and has been with Rigaku for 19 years. She started in the Macromolecular Crystallography Applications lab focusing on X-ray techniques to study structural biology. She has gained expertise in a number of X-ray methods in her tenure at Rigaku, including small angle X-ray scattering and X-ray computed tomography. Angela likes working with customers to find the best fit for their samples while addressing their specific experimental questions. Want to learn more? Connect with Angela on LinkedIn.
